It is giant enough, but it is still useless, so I knocked it to pieces.”
Zhuangzi replied, “I know you are clumsy to utilize giant. A man in Song was versed in making salve to protect hands from being chapped, and his family made living on bleaching cocoon silk for generations. A traveler heard of this, proposing to buy the prescription for a hundred gold coins. The Song man gathered his family and advised, ‘Our family have worked on bleaching cocoon silk for generations, but we have only saved a few gold coins! If we sell our prescription, we can get a hundred gold coins just now! Let’s sell it.’So the traveler got the prescription, and went to the king of Wu. Wu was in the conflict with Yue, and commanded the traveler to fight against Yue. He put Yue to a rout in a river war that winter, and was invested a portion of occupied field as his feoff. The prescription can only protect hands from getting chapped, but in different use, someone can be enfeoffed, someone can make a living on bleaching. Not that you have a giant gourd which can contain five piculs, why don’t you think of traveling in river or lake in it? Otherwise you just worry about its vast empty! You do have a shut heart as a small hard grass seed!”
